Liberec

The fifth largest town (100,000 inhabitants) in the Czech Republic is situated in a valley between the Jizera Mountains and the Ještěd Ridge. The mountains around Liberec offer ideal conditions for both winter and summer recreation. The most popular cross-country ski race – the Jizera Fifthy (Expedition Peru 1970 Memorial) is held in the Jizera Mountains annually.

Liberec together with nearby Jablonec create an important industrial area, famous mainly for its vehicle devices making, polymer, glass and electronic industries.

Liberec can also boast of one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe with a remarkable collection of orchids, a ZOO situated in the mountain land, a town hall in the Vienna style, which is the residence of the town authorities, three theatres and a series of interesting buildings, such as the Nord Bohemian Museum. Very known Liberec´s symbol is the tower at Ještěd Mountain top (1012 m above the sea level), for the design of which architect Karel Hubaček received the very prestigious and Perret Award in 1969. Accommodation and Living Costs

There are number of factors that have to be taken into account when calculating your likely living expenses while studying at Technical University of Liberec, Faculty of Mechatronics, Informatics and Interdisciplinary Studies. Food

There are several on campus student restaurants that offer food with reasonable price ranging from 0.8 to 2 Euro per meal.

Transportation

Although is Student city Harcov in the walking distance from the university campus (15 min), buses and tramways are convenient public transportation in Liberec. One ticket for 40 min of ride costs approximately 0.6 Euro, and the monthly permission approximately 50 Euro.
