Liberec
The fifth largest town (100,000 inhabitants) in the Czech Republic is situated in a valley between the Jizera Mountains and the Ještěd Ridge. Liberec can also boast of one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe with a remarkable collection of orchids, a ZOO situated in the mountain land, a town hall in the Vienna style, which is the residence of the town authorities, three theatres and a series of interesting buildings, such as the Nord Bohemian Museum. Very known Liberec´s symbol is the tower at Ještěd Mountain top (1012 m above the sea level), for the design of which architect Karel Hubaček received the very prestigious and Perret Award in 1969.
